“A heterogeneous work space unified by its design ingredients”

An office space is a manifestation of an organisation’s personal taste which inspires its users to strive to perform one’s best. The brief outlined the design of a shared office space with its key operational functionalities.

Given the spirit of the office space, the ideation for this second design project we undertook for our client, necessitated a scheme of design not bound by a solitary ethos. At the same time, it called for a unifying character to feature the heterogeneous workspaces under one roof.

The ‘unity in diversity’ was conveyed using bio-mimicry elements in our design. This rather subtle biophilic design with minimalistic and contemporary approach lent an engaging, relaxed and quirky feel to the space, creating a serene working oasis within the chaotic metropolitan context.

The aforesaid design is a multi-sensory experience, factored in by its materiality and choice of colours. A selection of rich earthy tones and textures combined with organic shapes and forms have been considered in the interiors for a more holistic approach to the theme. This can be recognized in the cafeteria sitting area, where a structural element is wrapped with brass tubes arranged around a cylindrical framework to imitate a tree bark which is encircled by a congregation of ‘bird lights’. The ‘abstract tree’ has a ‘canopy’ supported by a cantilevered brass framework of ‘branches’ to denote its over-arching foliage.

The final attribute which influences the ’close to nature’ theme is basic human forethought. The structural elements in the workspace have been incorporated into the layout design to dissolve their individual identity into the space. Having sightlines not interrupted by the structural members appeals to our innate sense of an unobstructed space.
