The area of our research is the center of Athens. Our project consists of two parts: public space equipment and a prototype system of living.
Regarding the public space we suggest the creation of modules that are used either by residents or tourists or homeless people who have nowhere to stay. It is desirable to make the area a big “home” for all to thrive sense of confidence and solidarity. We push people to live in the city and its streets. As the house is divided into rooms each of which has its own function, we wanted to create autonomous units - rooms where each one can serve a different purpose. We divide the units according to their function in: resting, reading, cleaning, sleep, cook, heat.
As for the living system, we are proposing a prototype system, a new experimental type of occupation, where simple units come together to create a housing complex which responds to short-term but also long-term needs of residents.
This residential complex consists of 6 sub-assemblies, separated by 2 pairs of each complex. It offers accommodation, communal pools and a staircase with a lift for the vertical motion. The interior of the rooms consists of specific designed elements which can have multiple uses. The goal was the ability of change and the transformation of the space according to the needs of the occupant. Indicative floor plans show the complex.
Essentially we are talking about a open plan configuration which can be varied depending on the needs and number of occupants.
