Aerocity

Aerocity in Delhi is a unique project redefining the urban experience of the city. Establishing itself as a gateway to visitors who arrive by air, both international and domestic, the development is the first and last impression of the city and the country. In terms of scale, it is the largest planned development that Delhi has witnessed since the establishment of the capital city by the British in 1911. With such significance, the Client, a consortium of the government and the private concessionaire, the GMR Group, floated a global competition for selecting the Master Planner and the infrastructure designers. The Architects won both the contracts.

The Architects took this unique opportunity of not just creating a Master Plan for the hospitality district but for the entire conceivable mixed-use
development of 250 acres. Thereafter, the design developed for the 65-acre hospitality district, defined the urban form of each land parcel, detailing the creative realm of the complex. The design strategies included creating a vibrant pedestrian promenade, which starts from the metro station at the southern end and runs through the entire area like a spine. By opening up the complexes of different hotel properties, instead of planning them as separate and gated blocks, the Architects developed Aerocity as a complete and one-stop public recreation centre, an exemplary concept for the city. The Architects created a novel idea in their urban design wherein the Food and Beverage (F&B) and retail of each hotel opened onto the pedestrian promenade.

The seamless traffic circulation, creation of the plazas, the novel designs of street furniture, landscape plantation, water features and public art, all come together to what has truly become one of the most sought after public places in Delhi and NCR.
