John Adams High School (Q480) serves grades 9-12 and special education. The original building was completed in 1927. This project entails converting a fitness room, nurse’s offices and two small storage areas into a school-based health clinic.
The proposed school based health clinic is to be located at the basement floor. The existing use for each of these spaces and plan to relocate the function if needed is as follows:
Gym-N (1039 square feet) is currently being used as a fitness room. All equipment will be removed and stored as DOE property. This space will be converted to host two social work offices, a health education office, meeting room, storage space and a patient waiting area for the new school-based health clinic.
Room B-17 (491 square feet) is currently a Nurse’s office. The room is split into two. One serves as an examination room, while the other is used as an administration space. The administration space has a small bathroom which will have to be demolished and moved in order to comply with ADA requirements for the new school-based health clinic. This new space will host 3 exam rooms, an ADA bathroom, small lab, and a reception area.
Both the Supply Closet and Panel Room (38 square feet each) are located in the Sterilization Room, which is adjacent to the Nurse’s office. Both spaces are abandoned and are within the scope area for the proposed school-based health clinic.
The total square footage of the health clinic will be 1639 square feet. The construction cost is $1,734,271. The design start date was 2/11/2013.and this new school-based health clinic will be constructed in the summer of 2014.
