This paper was presented at the Women of the Mediterranean: Women and Resilience Virtual Conference hosted by The Sant’Anna Institute and College of the Holy Cross on June 12th - 13th, 2021.

The subject of this research is the unique and innovative pedagogy of engagement and outreach employed by University of Washington (UW) Professor Emerita Astra Zarina. 

Her pedagogy is a useful tool not only for the teaching of design, but also for anyone interested in enriching the student experience through the engaged learning of educational outreach as applied in both in service-based studio projects and international studies.
