Set on a family smallholding deep in the bush the minimal micro cabin is designed to celebrate the bush and impose as little as possible. Low maintenance and made to completely lock down when not in use for months at a time the cabin has been reduced to its core principles, reduction in size allows for more attention to detail a focus on craftsmanship, quality. and sustainability. The extremely hot and dry climate called for a well-insulated bedroom achieved by cavity walls containing insulation and roofs with both insulation and thermal reflective coating.
The material palette is simple with concrete blocks made on site with river sand sourced only a few meters away and steel that has been recycled as far as possible and cast in-situ concrete features. An open patio come living come kitchenette frames nature to both sides inviting it in while sheltering from the harsh heat.
With most time spent either in the outdoors or communal boma, the cabin offers safe and comfortable refuge from the harsh elements of the bushveld.
