Flying A Ranch Rd., Bondurant, WY

The development of this five acre lakefront parcel and vacation compound in rural Wyoming builds along two axial orientations providng organizational cohesion to the compound while expressing
the inherent unity and conflict between dwelling and visitation.

The main axial on the solar E/W line represents and organizes the visiting “external” and manifests as a central circulation path bisecting the site from the main road to the lake bridging over a wetland vernal pool. The minor axial on the geographic E/W line represents the site-centric “internal”. Garage,
boathouse, renewable energy and rainwater harvesting occur on the “external” axis, dwelling units still oriented to the main axis are arranged along the minor. The act of living occurs in their interstice, a guest cottage sits at their intersection.

Designed to be developed in stages, the base design consists of the main house with 2kW grid-tied PV & battery back up, rainwater harvesting system and a 2 bed/2 bath dwelling unit. Subsequent development includes; a garage unit, a 2 bed/1 bath wing, a 1bed/1 bath guest cottage, a boathouse, a dock, a beach, two additional 5kW arrays (garage & boathouse) and a 1kW wind turbine. Locally sourced stone, timber and siding are the main finish and structural materials.

Procession through the main house from the entry drive to outer deck at the point is one of transition
from the grounded density under a large stand of Fir trees to that of a towering perch above the trees
framed by sky and the distant Teton range.
