Greene Street Residence (Phase I)

The owners of a four-story brownstone sought to create a new duplex for their growing family and design business. The duplex is organized with the entry, living room, kitchen, guest bath and flexible office/bedroom space at the ground floor and two new bedrooms with shared bath at the second floor. Connecting the two levels is a new stair clad in butcher block treads and risers with hickory slats that screen light cast from a large picture window. Below, the slats infill to create valuable storage space and integrate with a discrete yet light-filled desk to its side. The kitchen utilizes custom laminated corian and plywood countertops and OSB paneled backsplashes. Ikea panels are repurposed to create wrap around open shelving with integrated LED lighting. A new flexible space acts as a design/client meeting area for the business as well as a guest bedroom when needed. Upstairs, the new master and kids bedrooms feature large scale sliding pocket doors that can transform the private spaces into a more open feeling loft for easy interaction. In between, a grand shared bath contains custom wood framed medicine cabinets, a large trough sink, soaking tub and walk-in shower.
