The CAP studio (Comprehensive Architectural Program) challenged teams to design a project through the advanced design development level. Working with Kendra James and John Putre (Studio PBJ), we were asked to design a car dealership and exhibit space for the Smart Car brand. The site was located on the main strip in Las Vegas, NV next to the Planet Hollywood Hotel.
The design strategy divided the program into three usage zones that overlapped to created intersections in program. Eight hour program housed offices and the car service center. Twelve hour program contained the car sales show room and indoor events space. The twenty four hour program contained outdoor interactive displays, a night club and small retail space. In addition to the building our team designed twenty four hour display pods that visitors could interact with when the twelve hour program was closed.
The building was designed to minimize negative impacts on the surrounding environment. Natural ventilation and solar shading were used to decrease the consumption of energy. Recycled materials were used in the design of the panel systems that makes up the exterior cladding for the 24 hour and 12 hour zones.
