Shearing the Shoreline: pulling the Lake in, pushing the Forest out

The project takes the natural slope of the site and exaggerates it, creating two ground planes, one of the lake and one of the forest. The construction operates by shearing these planes over one another to create two levels of space. These levels create a game of hide and reveal. The entrance bridge creates three moments of pause that focus one’s attention on the lake, horizon, and sky. The sequence foreshadows the elements the occupant will later have the choice to experience in the bath.
