Museum project

Client of this project, Culinary Arts Museum of Johnson Wills University wants to transform this 3-story corner office building into an outpost that raises awareness and generates traffic for their suburban museum. My goal is to create an elevated experience, spatially and programmatically. Major attraction of the place, an 1890 ice cream parlor is reclaimed to be displayable and fully functional, and partially turned into a threshold into the space. To give emphasis to this center piece, the main lobby is literally elevated into a stair space which also grants double entrances on both sides of the street corner to the main lobby and exhibition space in the basement. A cooking classroom is placed in a glass box at the back as people go further up the main lobby. To go further up the building, visitors can choose to take the reclaimed fire stairs that circulates in and out the building to each level, or use the elevator. This division of transportation ensures the separate operations of the 9 to 8 ice cream parlor and the 5 to 2 roof top bar.
