Karen Shakman is the principal of Iconic Architecture and Design.
Graduated in Industrial Design in 1992 (Brazil) and Architecture and Urban Planning in 1993(Brazil), she immigrated to the United States in 2000 where she has obtained her American Professional Registration (2006) and LEED Accreditation (2007). Just recently she has received her Master of Science in Design degree with a concentration in Design of Healthcare and Healing Environments at Arizona State University. The title of her thesis was "An Exploraty Study: Exploring Emergency Department Design-Layout and Nursing Physical Fatigue".
Karen Shakman has a diverse and multi-national background in the field of architecture and design. The scope of her experience involves numerous projects both in her native country of Brazil and in the United States. This enables her to “problem-solve” through a variety of provincial and diverse socio-economic scenarios. In addition to training in Architecture and Urban Planning, her bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design has been instrumental towards generating creative solutions for many projects, specifically within the field of Interior Design.
Karen Shakman expresses herself in the rethinking, reinvestigating and reinterpreting of all project details and options, while still maintaining high-efficiency in the creative process and ’setting the bar’ for client satisfaction. She believes in the social responsibility of architecture for when design is accomplished, it reverberates in space and time reaching infinite possibilities and affecting the way people will live and interact.
