About

The breadth of my passions may be my most defining characteristic. Although architecture is my chosen profession, I also find tremendous joy in nature, cooking, the arts, and science.  After spending 5 years working in Physical Oceanography (think currents, stratification, and data analysis - not dolphins and fish), I decided to pursue architecture and earned an MArch. I work very well with others, I enjoy working hard, and I don't shy away from the technical.  I'm very flexible about location, as I love experiencing new places and cultures.

Employment

C Concept Design, Architectural Designer

I continued work that I started as an intern the previous year. Due to visa limitations, my stay was restricted to 3 months. I continued to work on a variety of concept-phase projects performing the same types of roles that I mentioned in the description of the previous internship period. Additionally I took a leading role on the design of a small museum (10,000 sf). I wrote a script to create a detailed 3d model of the building in Rhino. I worked on compiling a drawing set to be passed off to the local architect.

C Concept Design, Architectural Intern

As an architectural intern, I worked on a range of concept-phase projects. I created booklets in InDesign, met with clients, drafted and calculated areas in AutoCad, created maps, and revised cad plans in Illustrator, made massing models with foam-core, created detailed 3d models in Sketchup, rendered perspectives in Photoshop, and proposed a LEED silver strategy for a small museum.

Education

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), MArch, Graduate Architecture, MArch 3

This program was a 3 year Masters for students with non-architectural bachelors degrees. Accordingly, it included basic design, building structures, building systems, a masters thesis, and all of the coursework that comes with an accredited MArch program. Additionally I opted to do a 3 month study abroad program in Switzerland that included Studio and travel around Europe.

Kalamazoo College, Bachelors, Liberal Arts

This was a four year BA liberal arts degree. My major was Mathematics and I minored in Physics. I took a wide range of classes, including a six month study abroad program in Budapest, Hungary that focused on Mathematics.
