Perforated Skin House

In this self-assigned design charette I chose to explore a perforated metal screen system with a cubic form as a basis.  A stairwell cuts a vertical channel through the front facade. A living and dining area cantilevers out of the first floor.  An accordian style structure allows the glass to open when the weather is appropriate.

All remaining window penetrations are shaded by the screen, providing cooler spaces with abundant light of an enjoyable charachter.  The metal screen is supported by a regular grid of vertical steel members, tied together horizontally where necessary.  Additionally a roof garden provides a private green space for the residents to relax in open air.
