House V

Located in a small village, just a few kilometers distance from the township, Coimbra. The site, is inserted on the village boundaries in a new residential development, where the typical family house dominates the immediate landscape.
From the topography of the terrain, the legal constraints and the narrow front of the site we start to form the shapes of the new object. The concept is based on the organization of simple volumes of rural buildings, and interpret them in a contemporary architecture. Unlike the traditional houses, where the main entrance is from the living rrom or the kitchen, here we invert that situation and put the living room and the kitchen in a lower level to a more private and intimate connection with the landscape. The bedrooms are located on the upper level, forming irregular spaces by the sloped roof and non-orthogonal walls. Instead of the common roof tiles we substitute this traditional construction method for metal sheets (zinc), not only on the roof but also on the sidewalls.
