Metro is seeking the services of talented and motivated individual design project manager(s) to provide services on an independent contract, project assignment basis.
Metro is in the midst of this country’s most ambitious transit expansion, a virtual doubling of the size of LA County’s fixed-guideway system. Selected project manager contractor(s) will facilitate and coordinate design and delivery of multiple signage/wayfinding and customer environment design projects which may include new construction, major refurbishments, renovation of Metro’s bus and rail stations, maintenance facilities and provide design supervision for interior and exterior styling of our fleet vehicles.
We are seeking a minimum contract commitment of one year, with up to three one-year extensions.
Facilitate and lead signage projects successfully from concept to completion by tracking and reporting progress to Metro core team and senior management to identify project requirements, to evaluate team concerns, to monitor adherence to project plans and to ensure compliance from relevant parties.
Interface with outside contractors to review signage project submittals and RFIs, coordinate and document comments from multiple internal clients, and assure that the final signage components meet Metro’s signage standards and guidelines, uniform brand identity standards and industry field standards.
Attend meetings and perform work at Metro’s downtown Headquarters building as required.
Prepare design project job briefs, open signage jobs and obtain final written approval from multiple departments/stakeholders.
Develop draft scopes of work and contract specifications and manage vendor contracts.
Review quotes, invoices and creates check requests, purchase orders and necessary documentation.
Document, survey and prepare visual audits across the transit system (stations, rail and bus fleet, facilities, etc.).
Create installation guidelines for signage components and advise core team to determine optimal placement and attachments.
Research vendors and industry literature for state of the art signage materials, finishes, construction feasibility and expertise with technological developments.
Review, track and provide technical guidance to signage fabrication shop drawings and material and finishes specifications.
Inspect completed signage installations and generate detailed ‘punch lists’ to industry standards.
Five years solid experience in a professional design firm.
Proficient at reading and interpreting construction documents and graphic specifications.
Excellent writing skills to effectively communicate to the team and stakeholders.
Ability to successfully track multiple projects and deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office. Fluency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop is a big plus.
Compensation & Terms
Independent Contractor’s compensation shall be commensurate with qualifications and experience and subject to negotiation with Metro.
Metro will pay against submitted invoices per terms of the contract.
Work is primarily performed off-site with own equipment, software, supplies, etc.
Insurance is required to work at Metro; specifics will be discussed at time of selection.
Services will be provided as an independent contractor and does not include employee benefits.
Period of Performance
Independent contractor shall complete work within one year of award of contract, unless this Contract is terminated earlier or extended by Metro, as provided in the Contract.
Metro may extend the Period of Performance at its sole discretion by exercising up to three one-year extensions by issuance of an appropriately funded modification to the Contract.
Future year funding for this Contract is based upon availability of funds as determined by Metro’s fiscal budget which runs from July 1 through June 30 of each fiscal year.
