"While serving as lead estimator at Valle Reinis Builders, I assisted with this 4-bedroom, 3 bath, 3,000-ft2 mid-century modern renovation off of Sunset Strip during the final months of construction. On my own initiative, I developed a punch list for the team with insights from the construction project manager. Responsibilities included overseeing concrete pours & finishing of the exterior decks / driveway, coordination & supervision of various trades, maintaining quality control, protecting finished work, & participating in site inspections with the client."

'An original butterfly roof defines the midcentury structure, which is sited on a winding street above the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Standard Architecture retained this core geometric feature, adding cedar siding underneath overhangs and white edges to emphasize the lines.'

'Inside, the butterfly roof marks much of the interior as well, with ceilings clad in the same cedar siding. A fireplace originally divided what is now one large, open great room complete with expansive sliding glass doors that overlook a patio and pool.'

'Clerestory windows mark overhanging sections of the roof while emphasizing its butterfly shape. The dining area flows into a new kitchen, which features new lacquered cabinetry and an inset area for the cooktop. A door to the left provides access to the carport.'

'In the kitchen a charcoal basalt peninsula from Basaltina spans one side, complementing the home's concrete floors and overall minimalist aesthetic. The concrete patio was also colored to match the interior and create a seamless look.'

'The master bedroom occupies an opposite wing of the house, with sliding glass doors providing access to the patio. Applebaum designed the bed and bedside table while the desk is by Jacques Adnet, the amp from Marcel Breuer, and chair by Carlo Bugatti from Blackman Cruz.'

'A custom concrete tub and vanity in the master bathroom was inspired by one of the client's favorite architects, John Pawson, who designed something similar in his Baron House. A room-width window illuminates the space, enhanced by mirrors on both sides.'

'The home offers three guest bedrooms and two additional bathrooms. One is currently being used as an office, with an antique French design and chair by Pierre Jeanneret. The sconces are made of raffia and were designed by Applebaum according to the AD interview.'

'Outside, a tidy backyard patio features the original pool and spa. The home's crisp white facade provide a fresh backdrop for relaxing in the sun.'
