"Casa mia" - From “Architettura sussurrante” (“Whispering architecture”, 1983), a compilation published by Ariston with the lyrics of the architect Alessandro Mendini
If you like electronic ambiance and stuff like boards of canada, then I will guarantee you will enjoy this german electronic composer. I always listen to his album Far Away Trains Passing By when working on architectural stuff.
The Philips Pavilion was a World's Fair pavilion designed for EXPO '58 in Brussels by the office of Le Corbusier. The pavilion was designed to house a multimedia spectacle that celebrated postwar technological progress. Because Corbusier was busy , much of the project management was assigned to Xenakis, who was also an experimental composer.
According to Xenakis, the idea of using curved surfaces composed of straight lines was inspired by his composition "Metastasis", premiered in 1955.
Le Corbusier's vision was an "Electronic poem", saying he wanted to present a 'poem in a bottle. He asked Edgar Varèse to write an electronic scorefor the installation, which went on to become one of the seminal works in the genre. Iannis Xenakis also composed a piece for the installation, which was played as an interlude when the audience entered and exited the pavilion. Titled Concrèt PH, Xenakis' composition is a series of manipulations of a recording of burning charcoal.
Love this topic. I am actually a musician turned architecture student. Music is my first love & I feel that architecture is closely related, which draws me to it. Anyway, If you like electro stuff, perhaps check out my work. It's on iTunes and YouTube, but here are links. I'm not spamming, I just like to get the architecture world's opinion on my work, this is after all, a profession that falls under heavy critique is it not?
"More Songs About Buildings and Food" is Talking Heads' second album, the first of a string of three co-produced by Brian Eno...."More Songs about Buildings and Food" was released on July 21, 1978
Poème électronique (English Translation: "Electronic Poem") is a piece of electronic music by composer Edgard Varèse, written for the Philips Pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair. The Philips corporation commissioned Le Corbusier to design the pavilion, which was intended as a showcase of their engineering progress. Corbusier came up with the title Poème électronique, saying he wanted to create a "poem in a bottle". Varèse composed the piece with the intention of creating a liberation between sounds and as a result uses noises not usually considered "musical" throughout the piece.
Rene Halkett ( Weimar Bauhaus school of art and design) + David J
David J wrote the lyrics of several Bauhaus (rock band) songs. He also released a collaborative single, "Armour" / "Nothing" with artist and poet Rene Halkett, of the original Weimar Bauhaus school of art and design.
Although I suppose it's debatable whether or not it is "electronic music", the Singing Bridges project by Jodi Rose is a pretty far out mixing of architecture and music.
