A bit. I've always called, but I've heard other folks say that's never a good idea. So far I've gotten jobs from the places I've called, so calling didn't disqualify me. I would suggest that if calling to follow up on an interview is something they decide makes you unworthy then perhaps working there wasn't such a good idea after all.
