Post-socialist / modern architecture in Russia and other former socialist countries?

I am highly interested in your thoughts about the questions below:

- Does modern architecture in Russia, CIS, and other former socialist countries differ from contemporary architecture in the West in any respect?
- Is there something like a post-socialist approach to it? Or a 'Russian' approach, which might be related to socialist realism or tsarist architecture?
- Do or should western architects who conduct projects in the area anticipate enough?
- Can anyone recommend literature and websites in Russian or English on the topic?

don't have time to dig into answers for your questions, but
http://www.tatlin.ru/ is hands down the best Russian publishing house dedicated to architecture and design. They publish material in English, or at least Russian+English ala El Croquis

also http://archi.ru/russia should give you tons of material to look through, such as this post with reviews of contemporary news about architecture and planning in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other locales - http://archi.ru/russia/55993/obzor-pressy-i-blogov-28-iyunya-4-iyulya

Have you read (or looked at- great photography) The Lost Vanguard: Russian Modernist Architecture 1922-1932?

Don't know if it will help in developing a thesis, but the buildings in it are amazing.
