Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, and Planning.
SWA Group is a world design leader in landscape architecture, urban design and planning.
SWA has offices in San Francisco, Sausalito, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, Houston, Dallas, and Shanghai. Although one of the largest firms in the industry, SWA is organized into a series of small studio-based offices.
The firm was founded in 1957 by Hideo Sasaki (at the time, chairman of the landscape architecture department of Harvard's Graduate School of Design) and Peter Walker (future chairman of the department), who formed one of the most talented partnerships in the history of landscape architecture and planning: Sasaki, Walker and Associates (SWA) in Watertown, MA. A west coast office was opened in 1959.
SWA has been recognized nationally and internationally for its design work. The projects span over 60 countries and have garnered over 600 awards. The work is recognized for its visionary aesthetics, exceptional functionality, keen understanding of social design, and strong emphasis on environmental sustainability.
"Our task is to go beyond the expected."
In 2005, SWA received the ASLA Firm Award, the highest honor that the American Society of Landscape Architects can bestow upon a firm.
