Le Folly- a design build project

A design-build project completed by a team of 9 students in Vernon, France. Le Folly serves as a metaphor for
the interaction between lovers. The GROUND FLOOR BEING A SPACE OF INTRODUCTION AND DISCOVERY,
ascending to the SLEEPING SPACE OF INTIMACY, finishing with the OVERLOOK SPACE BUILT FOR ONE person
and reflection.

The design build took place on “Villa Silly”, the name of Josette Silly’s farm. As an artist herself, she sponsored the project by providing lodging during the construction
and the land upon which the structure was built. The project was personal to her because it represented the recent loss of her beloved husband Alain.
The structure expressed her experience with Alain, the discovery of their love, and the joy and experience of it. The top overlook of the structure captures the
feelings of solitude and sorrow she experienced after his death.
