Yelta Köm is 1986 Istanbul born architect/writer based in Frankfurt/Istanbul. He has received a bachelor degree in architecture at Yildiz Technical University. He is currently student at Staedelschule Architecture Class, Frankfurt. He is a partner of KOTUstudio, which is Istanbul and New York based interdisciplinary designpractice dedicated to research and design on a variety of subjects, . KOTUstudio examines contemporary design and architectural problems at the intersection of politics, art, technology and architecture, and uses speculation as a design tool to reach deeply solutions. His work focusses on artistic/architectural interventions in public space, and contemporary urban problems related to communities, as well as conflict spaces.
In 2011, he got a travel scholarship from Arkitera Architecture Center.By getting this grant Yelta used this chance to travel around the world in 8 cities, in order to purse and observe a research based diary about the postfordist production of design in each geographies, cities and specific urban conditions. He called his research “In the Pursue of Production”.
In 2011 he co-founded Herkes Icin Mimarlik, a non-profit organization devoted to researching architectural solutions to social problems that Turkey is facing today. The organization engages with the economic, political and social dynamics of the places where it works and aims to create sustainable communities through implementation of its designs. His recent work “Adhoc Library” was shown at the 1st Istanbul Design Biennial “Adhocracy” exhibition. He is co-ordinator of #occupygezi architecture project of Herkes İçin Mimarlık.
