At the time of construction, the 35,000 SF six-bay hangar + three-story 49,000 SF squad ops facility was the largest hangar project within the F-22 program at Elmendorf. The hangar is a high-quality structure designed and constructed to provide a secure, functional, comfortable facility in which airmen can perform their work missions.
The project elements are a Squadron Operations section and Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU) section combined to support four functions: Command and Administration, Mission Planning and Briefing, Life Support Area, and Mission Support.
Project design goals emphasized strict organizational adjacencies and space requirements required for a successfully operating F-22 Squad Operations and AMU.
Additionally, the building form and use of materials had to reflect the local base architectural character and be visually congruent with the adjacent F-22 LO Maintenance Hangar.
Kumin provided A/E services from schematic design through construction administration.
