Universally, we occupy the spaces within the building we build and generally overlook the informal areas of refuge afforded by the form that buildings take in response to interior requirements. Hidden nooks, overlooked crannies, and forgotten corners create makeshift sanctuaries from the blazing summer sun and biting winds of winter.
The Liminal Hut focuses on this duality by combining a simple inward cant with a flexible sleeping bag cladding to create a cozy interior space as well as pockets of refuge within the exterior skin. Passersby can step inside for an extended stay or nestle into an exterior niche for a quick warm up. To promote the connection between the interior and exterior liminal spaces, the sleeping bag cladding is lifted slightly above the floor allowing those on the inside to catch glimpses of those occupying the skin
