The duplex typology provides many advantages in a multi-family development.  This typology can be added to an existing property or deployed as multiple duplexes across a site that allows for medium density.   

The prototype explores ideas about expandable and contracting spaces and shifts from single family to multi-family housing.  The duplex typology has potential to begin either as two units that could be converted to a single family dwelling, or vice versa.  This idea becomes important when studying small lot subdivision.  Could a series of duplexes become both single family and multi-family or transform between the two as the needs of the user evolve
