Boston Arts Academy (BAA)

Designed to facilitate and encourage interaction between the different art forms taught at the school, Boston’s only public high school for the visual and performing arts is comprised of cutting-edge arts education spaces including a 500-seat teaching theater, 150-seat black box theater, and a 150-seat multipurpose music recital hall. Arts disciplines are organized by building level, interconnected via social spaces that encourage impromptu performances and cross pollination of the various arts disciplines.

1st and 2nd floors are dedicated to Theater and host Acting & Movement Studios, a Film studio and Screening Room, and support spaces. The 3rd floor, devoted to Dance, includes multiple studios and changing rooms. Visual Arts and Fashion Technology occupy the 4th floor and features 2D and 3D Art, Styling/Design, and Exhibition Studios. Music on the 5th floor boasts various choral, ensemble, and practice rooms, a recording studio, midi lab, percussion studio, teacher planning rooms, instrument storage space, and the rooftop performance and gathering space.
All levels offer core flexible classrooms, special learning, and experimental spaces, including a cutting-edge STEAM lab where students explore where math, science, technology, and art intersect. The project is LEED Gold Certified.
