Almquist Place

Almquist Place is a six-story mixed use building located in the rapidly changing Little Saigon neighborhood on the eastern edge of Seattle’s International District. The building provides studio apartments for formerly homeless residents, live-in manager units, and spaces for case management, health, and group therapy services. It also includes on-site property management services and a centralized maintenance facility serving Plymouth Housing’s properties.

The building’s angular form reflects the trapezoidal shape of its site, opening at the corner to form a public plaza and main entry while also admitting daylight to the elevator lobbies on the residential levels. The residential levels are organized on double-loaded corridors with unit entries offset from one another to provide privacy. Natural light and views are provided at each end of the corridors as well as in the elevator lobby.

The project team supported Plymouth Housing’s community outreach efforts through multiple meetings with neighbors and adjacent business owners. The feedback provided helped inform the overall design strategy and the art selection for the public plaza at the building’s main entry.

Data:
102 resident units
3 manager units
6,138-sf common areas and maintenance
11 parking spaces
1,160-sf retail
