Norwegian Statoil announced an international design competition for its future headquarter in Stavanger. Statoil expressed expectations for a building with high architectural and functional qualities that would be a landmark in the Forus area. The building should contribute to bring pride among the employees.
Snøhetta proposed a building consisting of two relatively similar constructions that can accomodate a total of 8 000 workplaces. It is located in the north east corner of Forus East to release the largest possible part of the site to a sculpture park and permanently wetlands for wild life. The construction technology is based on cantilevered steel frames on decks of solid tree elements.
