The Agros International project is located in the Matagalpa region of Nicaragua, near the small trading town of El Tuma.  Previously used as a cattle farm, Tierra Nueva supports 153 families, as opposed to the 30 families Agros usually involves in development.  The land that is not being used for housing is divided up into individual farm plots for each family.  There is very little communal farming, with the exception of some coffee that will grow in the mountainous forested areas of the site that are too difficult to farm.

The project design packet was formed in-country in one week with another two to three weeks of work back in Seattle.
