Fonda-Fultonville Central School District

BCA Architects & Engineers started its relationship with Fonda-Fultonville CSD in 2007 as a result of construction issues they had with their new Elementary School. Within three years, the District was experiencing unusual settlement, cracking and movement in the concrete floor slabs and interior walls of the new building.

The investigation discovered that unsuitable material, which was excavated during construction, had been used as backfill under the slab and subsequently caused the building to settle. BCA Construction Managers’ developed a plan, gathered all of our data and developed a solution to the situation facing the Fonda Fultonville CSD.

The solution involved a very aggressive plan to reconstruct one half of a classroom wing at a time by disconnecting all mechanical, plumbing and electrical connections, remove all cabinetry, white & tack boards, and other new furnishings and store them safely. Then demolish all interior classroom partitions and the existing concrete floor slab.  The unsuitable material is removed and then everything is reconstructed to complete the classrooms. Because of the magnitude of this reconstruction, all of the work in any given wing was accomplished in one, 9 week summer construction season.

BCA is currently working with the district on their next $19,000,000 capital project.  This project includes new roofing, turf field, upgrades to the auditorium, locker rooms, toilet room, and high school gymnasium with potential expansion and sound systems.

Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical upgrades will include new hot water heater, interior drainage, air handling units, boiler replacements, new lighting, and overall upgrades to enhance energy management.
