The house is part of a 13 housing complex located in Cuernavaca Morelos, 80% of the site is reserved for green areas. The primary concepts for this construction - which were implemented and constructed 30 years ago, were fully based on sustainable development. When we first visited this project we realized that the house was in bad conditions due to humidity. We also mapped an opportunity to maximize the potential in daylighting.
Our first objective was to understand and respect the history of manufacture in this city in order to make a fusion of traditional architecture with contemporary design. We also studied the existing spatial configuration to repurpose and optimize the function of the project.
For this particular house we decided to develop an architecture language to infiltrate the existing design in different facets (floor, walls, furniture). Our intervention is executed as a work of architectural craftsmanship where we recover the value of the traditional manufacture process by using our current technology. Some aspects of the house, like the vertical celosía or the permeable divider wall at the kitchen, are architectural elements that suggest an innovative form of interior space.
TDDA took the challenge of designing all the wood furniture in the project.
