“ What is the identity of Hat Yai ? ”
Hat Yai was known as the central city of Southern Thailand. This city is one of the
leading trading areas in Thailand, located in the middle of Songkhla province. It is
also known as the transportation hub with all main transit such as Hat Yai Junction
(train station), Hat Yai International Airport, and Hat Yai bus terminal. Hat Yai is
often mistaken for being the provincial capital. Nowadays, Hat Yai city, once known
as the center of Southern Thailand, has changed. People in the city center started
to move out, and the news said that the city was dying, facing a crisis in the city.
This project is to create a space that will make people recognize their identity and
open up to the differences in beliefs and culture that help realize what the city
already has to help re-identity the city in the future. This project also aims to find the architectural space that the design can encourage people to understand their
culture and identity and tell the narrative of the city's history, which gives the space
for people to learn new things from the past
