PLAGE_ Festival Ephemeral Gardens (celebrating 400 years of Québec City) - Québec City, QC, 2008.
Site: 25 m x 6 m; linear lumber, gravel, planting, lighting, solar-powered sound devices.
The project sources on the prairie/beach typology and explores the juxtaposition of sounds, light, colour and planting, in a space reminiscent of the planting fields and the open spaces of the prairie, with the enticement of the beach culture and softlandscape. Plage creates a counterpoint to the typical garden experience—not a garden that shows itself, but a garden that provokes an experience—a space for meeting, gathering, observation, and introspection, but above all a place for encounter.
