The Santa Fe Opera

MAD is developing the master plan to expand The Santa Fe Opera. The $23 million construction project will renovate about 36,000 sq ft and add more than 28,000 sq ft to the current facilities. The project involves expansion in four major areas of the campus: entrance/plaza, opera club, prop/scene shops and dressing rooms/costume shop. In addition to these areas, the wing space of the actual theater will also increase on both sides of the stage and new projection and video equipment will be added.

Construction will begin on the first phase after the conclusion of the current season in 2014 and is scheduled to finish in time for the 2017 season, coinciding with the company’s 60th anniversary. The vocabulary that was introduced by the theater is being continued, and in the end, the goal is to have a beautifully cohesive series of buildings that will appear to be a uniform design. Similar to an opera, MAD sees these as separate characters that together will form a single performance.
