620 Memorial Drive

620 Memorial Drive is a 5 story building purchased by an MIT affiliate from Pfizer with the intention of turning it into leasable lab spaces. This project presented a unique challenge: we were not allowed into the building to measure until after Pfizer moved out, which was the time the new owners wanted to start construction. We had to rely on outdated construction documents and make quick changes as problems presented themselves. I was heavily involved in the first phase of this project, the core & shell design. I played a big part in designing the entry and elevator corridor. The client wanted a “googleish” feel to the space, but their enthusiasm for design shrunk with the growing cost of construction. We decided to make the most of bright accent colors and use the building’s existing obtuse angles to make a space close to what they were envisioning.

The second phase of this project was constructing a speculative lab suite. The main purpose of this space was to be a model for prospective tenants to show the size and capabilities of the available units, but also to be fully functional and ready to be leased.
