Kent Denver School Library (Duncan Center) Renovation
The Duncan Center is the place to be at Kent Denver School, whether for intense study or simply passing time outside of class. The former school library has been reincarnated into a forward looking, dynamic, learning environment. Barriers in the former library were removed to reveal a singularly identifiable place with the ability to accommodate different styles of learning. Literal and figurative transparency emphasizes the importance of collaborative work and education in the digital age.
The transformation of the existing library consisted of a major interior renovation and minor exterior addition consisted of approximately 11,000 square feet. The new spatial configuration created 4 distinct zones: traditional library stacks, flexible study workstations, technologically advanced collaboration, and casual commons seating.
New large exterior windows provide a respite from studies and connect students to the natural environment. The faceted wall and wooden ceiling geometry helps to mitigate noise proliferation, while also providing a unique, dynamic character within the space .
