A school of architectural thinking
Los Angeles, CA
Request InformationLos Angeles, CA (March 5, 2019) – SCI-Arc is pleased to announce the appointment of Kate O’Neal as Chief Advancement Officer.
Spanning a 25-year career as a fundraiser for arts, higher education, and research programs, O’Neal has played a key role in securing resources to establish new research centers, create named chairs, and fund endowed scholarships in the non-profit sector.
She holds a master’s degree in Arts Management and a bachelor’s degree in Music, both from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
Prior to her current role at SCI-Arc, she has held positions at non-profits including Otis College of Art and Design, UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, UCLA Library, and RAND Corporation. O’Neal has extensive experience in partnering with board members and academic leaders to shape impactful opportunities to attract philanthropic investment.
Throughout the course of her career O’Neal has been involved in organizations whose primary concerns and priorities are shared by SCI-Arc – art and design, urban planning and transportation, mobility in the city, and how the city’s design impacts the quality of life.
“All of these themes of my past experience combined with the skills I’ve accumulated during my career offer the perfect opportunity to advance our mission here at SCI-Arc,” O’Neal says. “I’m thrilled to help generate scholarships and program support for such a renowned institution.”
SCI-Arc Director Hernan Diaz Alonso adds, “With an ever-expanding institution, SCI-Arc’s next frontier will be to tackle the problem of the increased expenses of tuition and improve the conditions of scholarships for our students, as well as to elevate the presence of our school as an active cultural leader in LA and beyond – including new research projects and facilities,” he says. “Kate is fantastically equipped to lead these efforts for SCI-Arc.”
