A school of architectural thinking
Los Angeles, CA
Request InformationLos Angeles, CA (March 12, 2019) – SCI-Arc is pleased to announce the addition of Adele Yellin as its newest board member.
Adele Yellin is president of The Yellin Company and known widely as a significant figure behind the redevelopment of downtown Los Angeles — most notably with critically lauded projects such as Grand Central Market, the iconic and recently renovated food hall and marketplace that has stood as a potent engine helping to fuel DTLA’s dramatic economic revitalization.
As the wife of the late Ira Yellin, an influential developer who laid the groundwork for DTLA’s eventual renaissance, Adele has spent much of her life devoted to civic engagement and improving the public sphere.
“In continuing my husband’s seminal vision to restore LA’s central city, my team and I have worked very hard to have a significant positive impact on this city’s economic core and its daily quality of life,” says Yellin.
“SCI-Arc’s mission is reimagining the limits of architecture which implies reimagining how we will live in the 21st century,” she adds. “Board membership gives me an opportunity to participate in that planning and innovation, hopefully advancing our collective landscape.”
Yellin is currently active within several Los Angeles boards and non-profits including as Commissioner for the West LA Planning Commission, Angeles Flight Railway Foundation, Board of Visitors for the UCLA Medical School, KCRW Public Radio, and Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica Hospital. Yellin has been awarded several prestigious philanthropic honors, including 2014 LA Woman by Los Angeles Magazine, 2014 Presidential Honoree by The American Institute of Architects, 2015 Rose Award by the Los Angeles Parks Foundation, and 2015 AJC Los Angeles Community Leadership Award.
Hernan Diaz Alonso, SCI-Arc’s Director and CEO, says, “Adele has been an undeniable force in the transformation of downtown Los Angeles. We are inspired by her energy and commitment to architecture, and delighted for her to be a part of SCI-Arc.”
