Twelve Years Designing Together
Exhibition in McCormick Gallery

In 2001, as part of Its "Program for the Américas," the Boston Architectural College began to study Cuba. After an initial investigation by President Ted Landsmark the BAC invited members of its larger community to travel to Havana, Las Terazas, Matanzas, and Varadero. The invitation was well-received, and a group composed of faculty, graduates, friends, and students studied the country's culture and ar¬chitecture on a ten-day trip early in 2002. Besides sketching, photographing, and maintaining journals, the group met representatives of some of the country's institutions devoted to the arts, such as the Office of the Historian of Old Havana, the Group for the Development of Havana, and The Superior Institute of the Arts.

Following that successful trip, the BAC expanded its curriculum with studios, history and theory courses, continuing education programs, and independent research devoted to Cuba. This work has been done with the philosophy of ‘Designing Together - Diseñando Juntos.' We have learned much as a result.

This exhibit shares work done by members of the BAC and Cuban communities both in Cuba and Boston.
