BAC Student Awarded IIDA NE Scholarship
Sarah Boisselle, School of Interior Architecture
The Boston Architectural College is pleased to announce that Sarah Boisselle, a student in the College's Master of Interior Architecture program, was awarded a 2014 Student Scholarship from the International Interior Design Association, New England (IIDA NE). Sarah was one of three students to be awarded the scholarship in the amount of $1,200 each.
To apply for the scholarship, Sarah submitted a two-page portfolio of sample work from her Residential Studio Project, Inherent Beauty Found with in the Erosion of Time. The project featured design for a multi-family unit that utilized materials and aesthetic from the vernacular of Charlestown, MA. Sarah's inspiration came from the rich saturation of colors from the patina of the copper in architectural details throughout the neighborhood.
"It was an honor to be awarded the Student Scholarship from IIDA," said Sarah. "This scholarship meant a great deal to me as I enter my final semester at the BAC, as it is an acknowledgement of a great deal of work and dedication that has enriched my professional life. I've had the pleasure of attending a few IIDA events and these moments have given me the opportunity to further grow my network of peers and continue to feel a part of this wonderful industry."
The IIDA NE Student Scholarship applicants were judged on portfolio composition, design solutions, community involvement and the ability to clearly define their professional goals.
"Sarah submitted a well written description of her professional ambitions which allowed the judges to understand what inspires and motivates her as a designer," remarked Lisa Bonnet, Vice President of Student Affairs, IIDA New England Chapter. "Coupled with the strong graphic layout of her portfolio, and her excellent design sense, we were delighted to award her as a winner for the 2014 Student Scholarship."
Sarah is currently a designer at DiMella Shaffer. She has served as President of the BAC's Interior Design Society and been a member of the BAC's team at the New England IIDA Fashion Shows.
"This is a richly deserved award for Sarah," noted Crandon Gustafson, BAC Head of School of Interior Architecture. "In her career at the BAC, she has invariably gone beyond the resources of the classroom and studio to seek out new knowledge and methods in the field. Through insatiable curiosity and hard work, Sarah has achieved design success and "MVP" status in our Interior Architecture program."
The Master of Interior Architecture program at the Boston Architectural College combines classroom learning and practical experience in creative, collaborative environments. The BAC difference begins with the designer's role as a steward of the world's resources, and as an agent in the creation of spaces supportive of people's health, safety, and welfare. The object of the student's work is the design not merely of place, but of user experience. The student's orchestration of experience opportunities can employ environmental graphics, brand identity, furniture, and functional objects. Added to more traditional tools of color, light, acoustics, and thermal comfort, this updated palette of design materials enables the BAC student to address interiors in the context of social and technological change. The Master of Interior Architecture is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and is ranked among the top ten programs nationally by DesignIntellegence.
