Sopanbaug Apartments

Our proposal takes inspiration from the historical character of Pune’s gardens and the existing trees on site with  branching as a central concept to create a self-supporting facade network that will generate sun shading, an aesthetic identity and distinctive moods within the apartments.

The facade is designed primarily as a screen with highest density on the south facade with a decreasing effect as it moves on the eastern and western sides. Towards the north, the facade totally disappears and is replaced by green planting on large decks creating an inverse effect.

Designed as a uniquely engineered, prefabricated and modular system the facade components are self-supporting panels of 3M x 3M that will fix directly to the concrete framework. Each of that large panels are derived from a decagon, which is rotated and mirrored to create a more seamless and free flowing effect.
