This goal of this renovation was to update
the existing 2 story, 4 unit apartment
dwelling in a rowhome located in a
booming part of NW DC. The neighborhood
was rapidly changing and the apartments
needed an upgrade to keep up with the
ever improving district. Each 1 bedroom
apartment was gutted and new fixtures,
finishes, appliances, and refinished wood
floors were added in its place. The
challenge of this renovation was to keep
overall costs low, which meant that the
client wanted as little of the interior floor
plan to change as possible. Partitions
separating kitchen and living rooms were
demolished to create a large social space
- bedroom and bathroom locations were
to stay intact. New furnaces, tankless
hot water heaters and compact washer/
dryer units were strategically situated to
maximize living space in each 400 SF
apartment. A new balcony and rear porch
were constructed to allow for residents
to enjoy the rear courtyard and also as
a means of egress from the second floor.
New cabinetry, accessories and bright white
paint allows for this old DC rowhome to
be the perfect new place for the young
Washingtonian in a bustling part of the
District.
