A New Historical Hub in a once industrially prosperous area of the city.
The design reflects the character of the city and pay homage to the many people who once worked in the Verdant Works High Mill. The design will accommodate an archive that revolutionises the way we research and educate. The archive will specialise in making genealogical, local history and innovative documentation accessible.
The provision of accommodation for international researchers, where they can come and uncover their own identity within Dundee, will make this archive unique.
One of the aspirations for this building is to make users reflect upon the harsh industrial environment that modelled the character of the city. This can be done through the architectural statements: materiality, the organisation of space, or hierarchy of structural components etc. The building should not just simply store, but should also aim to reflect and respect the ‘ideas’ housed in the archive.
