Rui Miguel Monteiro attained a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) from Dundee University in May/2011.
Having previously completed a BA (Honours) in Interior Design at Edinburgh College of Art in 2009, Rui Monteiro is now seeking to develop skills, knowledge and qualifications in order to pursue a career in Architectural Design.
Previous to ECA he studied Arts, Set Design, as well as other creative subjects, at E.P.A.O.E Chapito a school of Performing Arts in Lisbon.
Having won and been shortlisted for national & international design awards, including the Satelliet Browns competition, and the annual RSA student competition, Rui Monteiro has enhanced his ability to produce eye-catching design projects.
With the skill of an artist and the technical training of an architect/designer, interests range from architectural design, scenic design to product design. Hopes to merge these disciplines in new and interesting ways, combining a creative hand and eye with the digital tools emerging from new technology.
Possesses a high degree of technical competence & commitment to quality, with a sound understanding of the design process. Aware of the current need for environmentally conscious design and passionate about contributing to the development of sustainable solutions.
Rui Monteiro is currently involved in the design & construction process of a house in Fatima, Portugal.

Commissioned to transform a neglected, traditional Portuguese rural stone house and its adjacent ruins, into a family accommodation.
- Proposed a new design in accordance with the client’s preferred style, resulting in being selected for contract.
- Researched codes and obtained required building permits.
- Created detailed designs, drawings, specifications, resource estimates, and timetables.

This was a multidisciplinary course involving technical aspects of theatrical, film, and video production, including, but not limited to planning, constructing and designing scenery, hanging and focusing of lighting, design and execution of costumes, makeup, stage management, and recording and mixing of sound.
RSA Design Competition: Public Spaces, Safer Places., Honorable Mention
An international competition targeted at architects, landscape architects, engineers and urban planners as well as those from across the design disciplines this project aimed to draw attention to the issues of security and counter-terrorism in the process of designing places visited and used by the public. Developed by the RSA, the Home Office and the National Counter Terrorism Security Office, the brief asks for design responses that mitigate the threat of vehicle bomb attacks in urban areas.
