The theme of the competition inevitably involves the entire town of Dolianova and the public spaces at the service of the community. The microcosm of Dolianova represents a nerve centre of extra-urban connections and must therefore be included in a broader context, that of the metropolitan city of Cagliari, developing new energies and societal dynamics of integration and territorial inclusion. The centre of Dolianova develops on different heights, a characteristic and beauty of Italian squares, it becomes inevitable to exploit these as elements of connection, alternative rest and play, creating a large "urban living room".
Today, one third of the space is used as a car park, but with a small intervention to reduce the size of the space, a new promenade is created and a mixed-use space that can become a market, a resting place, a playground as well as an extension of cultural activities. In this concept of a "unicum" of squares, there can be no retri, therefore everything must be characterised by a liveable space. The use of tall trees and water in a town like Dolianova, in its various forms, water walls, fountains, water mirrors, as well as creating meeting and entertainment areas, help to combat the ever-increasing heat bubbles especially in the summer season.
