FLOATING PAVILION ON THE DRAVA RIVER, 3rd Place

International competition
with Lara Brmbolic

There are places that evoke in us emotions, fantasies and memories that lead us to imagine something new.
The design incipit aims to create not a simple floating pavilion, but a true extension of the city within the river, conquering the water space. The ancient means of water transport, fundamental for the economic development of the city in the past, the raft, now tragically forgotten due to its disuse, is reinterpreted in a contemporary key, becoming an icon of the city that can be used throughout the year and the days.

A wooden volume wrapped in natural fibre cloths that establishes a relationship but also a negotiation between indoor and outdoor spaces depending on where it is located, leaning against a bank rather than floating on the water surface. The intention is to create a place, a microcosm of energies brought by tourists and citizens who are personally involved in the various events and activities. We could call it an "urban living room" in which to meet, socialise, create debates and exchange opinions, have a chat, taste good wines enchanted by the magic of the sunset over the river, or dine by candlelight wrapped in a floating lantern.

Floating architecture thus enhances the river space and enriches the social and cultural life of the city. With this bold and innovative vision, we transform the waters into a living stage, an arena where history mingles with the present and the vibrant future is shaped by the waves.

DOLIA 2021 - DUE PIAZZE PER DOLIANOVA, 3rd Place

The theme of the competition inevitably involves the entire town of Dolianova and the public spaces at the service of the community. The microcosm of Dolianova represents a nerve centre of extra-urban connections and must therefore be included in a broader context, that of the metropolitan city of Cagliari, developing new energies and societal dynamics of integration and territorial inclusion. The centre of Dolianova develops on different heights, a characteristic and beauty of Italian squares, it becomes inevitable to exploit these as elements of connection, alternative rest and play, creating a large "urban living room".

Today, one third of the space is used as a car park, but with a small intervention to reduce the size of the space, a new promenade is created and a mixed-use space that can become a market, a resting place, a playground as well as an extension of cultural activities. In this concept of a "unicum" of squares, there can be no retri, therefore everything must be characterised by a liveable space. The use of tall trees and water in a town like Dolianova, in its various forms, water walls, fountains, water mirrors, as well as creating meeting and entertainment areas, help to combat the ever-increasing heat bubbles especially in the summer season.
