The project is located in Baicheng, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It covers a land area of 24,322 square meters with total floor area of 10,350 square meters within the planned boundary lines.Through the survey and analysis of the local conditions, we discovered this vernacular architectural philosophy that respects nature, values simplicity and utility with an advocacy of “People First” and the use of local materials. The design “language” for the project is derived from the understanding of these traditional styles and local living habits. We integrated mountainous landscape, cultures and history with the architecture and in the meantime incorporated new elements on the basis of the traditions, to have created a unique architectural style. The inspiration of the building shape comes from the notion of the embrace between human and nature, which also complies the concept of Tai Ji and Yin Yang in ancient Chinese philosophy. The façade combines local brick laying patterns and Islamic symbols, demonstrating a brand new aspect of the contemporary Baicheng.
