Timber in the City

This project aims to explore the juxtaposition of heavy and light forms through its structure, enclosure and environmental systems.  The full-floor truss box presented itself as a logical structural solution to support the concept of heavy versus light.  The truss box allows a floor to be hung below and another to sit on top without interior supports, creating the impression of lightness or transparency.

Per the competition brief, the design had to be presented in the form of three distinct boards.  Each has been designed to distinguish between different user experiences.  While the first explains the prototype implemented throuought the site, the others describe the project through the minds of the professional “worker,” the “resident,” and the “visitor” for a clear and thorough understanding of the project design as a whole.
