McDowall Road

An L-shaped extension along with internal alterations provided the opportunity to create a series of linked spaces across the ground floor – from Victorian rooms with high ceilings and original features to a bright and texturally-rich contemporary kitchen.

The rear extension includes a large pivot door, oriel window and a fully glazed roof which together flood natural light into the kitchen and dining room and help create a dramatic contrast with the darker, more retrospective living spaces to the front of the house. The choice of interior finishes further emphasises the distinct qualities of these two atmospheres as the polished concrete floor of the kitchen wraps up the steps to connect with the herringbone parquet of the living room beyond.

The kitchen at McDowall Road consists of an L-shaped kitchen run and island unit with bar stool seating. Flush navy kitchen units compliment the sintered stone worktops and polished concrete floor. Exposed steel beams and a concrete linear pendant light help to continue the texturally rich theme.

Internal alterations at first floor level enabled the creation of an enlarged bathroom with a walk-in shower alongside a new utility room. Now extended and delicately re-furbished, McDowall Road is a home that combines the qualities of historical Victorian living with modern light-filled spaces.
